Ruth McGillivray joined Northwest Baptist Seminary in 2017 as Director of Competency-Based Education, bringing 25+ years of experience designing, developing and leading competency-based learning and assessment programs for corporate and trades training.
From 2010 to 2015, Ruth served in British Columbia’s apprenticeship training system, first as Manager of Quality Standards and then Director of Program Standards and Assessment. During that time, she lead an initiative to define and implement quality standards for trades training programs in BC, as well as serving on the national committee overseeing Canada’s Red Seal programs. Prior to her work in trades, Ruth developed competency-based programs for corporate clients, including 9 years at Motorola where she led wireless data network systems training for international clients.
Since 2000, Ruth has provided consulting services for competency-based program and assessment design, serving clients in a variety of industries including software, health care, web-based services, human resources and education. Her keywords for program design: scalable, sustainable solutions that provide reliable, valid results. Ruth holds an MA in Learning and Technology from Royal Roads University.
